The Sticky & Sweet Tour was Madonna’s eighth concert tour, launched in support of her 2008 album Hard Candy. Running from August 2008 to September 2009, the tour was her first under a new 360-degree deal with Live Nation, following her departure from Warner Bros. Records. Originally conceived as a one-leg tour, its overwhelming success led to an extension into 2009, making it one of the most commercially successful tours of all time. With 85 shows across Europe, the Americas, and select dates in Asia, the Sticky & Sweet Tour ultimately grossed over $400 million, setting a record at the time as the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist.

The tour was divided into four thematic segments: Pimp, Old School, Gypsy, and Rave, each reflecting a different visual and musical aesthetic. The show opened with "Candy Shop" in a futuristic setting, emphasizing themes of dominance and glamor. The Old School segment paid tribute to Madonna’s early career and the New York City dance scene, featuring tracks like “Into the Groove” mixed with elements of hip-hop and street art visuals. The Gypsy section incorporated acoustic instrumentation and Eastern European influences, while the final Rave segment was a high-energy celebration of electronic dance music, complete with neon visuals and club-inspired choreography. The production featured elaborate multimedia displays, cutting-edge stage design, and intricate costume changes, all emblematic of Madonna’s reputation for theatrical innovation.

The setlist drew heavily from Hard Candy, with tracks such as “4 Minutes,” “Give It 2 Me,” and “Miles Away” featured prominently, but it also included reworked versions of classic hits like “Like a Prayer,” “Vogue,” and “La Isla Bonita.” Madonna was accompanied by a live band, backup singers, and an international ensemble of dancers, all contributing to the dynamic pacing and visual intensity of the show. Critics praised the tour for its energy, choreography, and Madonna’s physical performance, especially considering her age at the time. While some reviews noted a colder, more mechanical tone compared to past tours, most acknowledged its technical precision and commercial appeal.

The Sticky & Sweet Tour reaffirmed Madonna’s status as one of the most enduring and bankable performers in the music industry. It demonstrated her ability to adapt to contemporary trends while maintaining control over her artistic identity. Blending new material with reinvented classics, the tour was both a commercial triumph and a carefully constructed expression of Madonna’s evolving pop persona.
